Durham Tees Valley Airport
Durham Tees Valley Airport

Located near Darlington, this international airport serves the North East of England. The airfield began its life in 1941 as RAF Middleton St. George. The RAF station was closed in 1963 and the airfield was put up for sale. Purchased by the local council a new terminal was opened in 1963. Flights to various destinations were flown, including Heathrow and Manchester.

The airport was sold a few times before current owners The Peel Group made investments.

Durham Tees Valley is a base for Cobham plc, who have a fleet of six Dassault Falcon 20s based at the airport. Cobham's Durham Tees Valley aircraft fly electronic countermeasure flights for the Royal Air Force and other NATO air forces. These aircraft can be found on exercise, usually around the UK or Europe.

The airport management have teamed up with the LAA, by taking one of our notice boards and displaying our posters and news. They are keen to promote light general aviation.
